Bryantsev Youth Theater is one of the oldest in Russia. On February 23, 2022, the theater celebrated its 100th anniversary. The repertoire of the theater contains more than 50 performances for children, youth, youth and adults. These are traditional and experimental productions based on Russian and foreign classics, as well as dramaturgy by modern authors. There are three stages in the theater building: the Big Stage (opened in 1962), the Small Stage (opened in 1997) and the New Stage (opened in 2017).
Thanks to the competent repertoire policy implemented by the theater’s management, well-known Russian and foreign directors are invited to work on new productions, and performances become nominees and laureates of prestigious theater and government awards.
The theater actively tours and takes part in major international festivals, constantly expanding the geography of trips. The theater’s participation in two flagship world theater festivals – Avignon (1989 – the play “Notes of A.I. Poprishchin”, 1997 – the play “Old World Landlords”) and Edinburgh (2018 – the play “Contract”) became an ornament of the festival history of the Theater. The theater also actively participates in the federal project “Big Tours”.
A.A. Bryantsev Youth Theater is the initiator and organizer of major international projects: since 2000, one of the most prestigious theater festivals in Russia “Rainbow” has been held on the stage of the theater, annually bringing together the best performances from Russia and abroad, as well as the largest children’s creativity competition in the Northwest region – the Bryantsevsky Festival of Children’s Theater collectives. Both projects have won prestigious awards: “Rainbow” – the winner of the Award of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of culture, “Bryantsevsky Festival” – the winner of the Award of the Government of St. Petersburg in the field of culture and art. In October 2021, the First Interregional Children’s Theater Festival “B’ART’O” was held in the theater.
The theater is actively searching in the field of modern drama: starting in 2020, the work of the laboratory “Youth” takes place within the framework of the Rainbow festival. Theater. Lab.”, which unites the young dramaturgical, directing, artistic and acting forces of the country, and within the framework of the B’ART’O festival, the “Piesochnitsa” laboratory is held, revealing the best modern children’s plays.
Since 2014, the theater, together with the St. Petersburg channel, has been implementing the Heroes of Our Time project. In May 2018, the series of TV shows was awarded the Prize of the Government of St. Petersburg in the field of culture and art.
Bryantsev Youth Theater is the organizer and participant of such festival projects as “Rainbow in the Baltic States”, “Rainbow Bridge”, “St. Petersburg – Avignon. St. Petersburg Seasons – 2016”, in which viewers of foreign countries were given a unique opportunity to see the best St. Petersburg and Russian premieres in the genres of drama, musical theater, puppet theater, etc. TYUZ is the initiator and organizer of the Alley of Stars project: every year, starting in 2016, plaques with the names of outstanding figures of culture and art of St. Petersburg are solemnly installed on Pionerskaya Square in front of the theater.
June 1, 2014, on the International Children’s Day, TYUZ im. Bryantseva implemented a project to create an accessible, barrier-free environment for disabled children on the territory of the theater. Mobile ramps for children with disabilities were installed in the theater. The theater creates the necessary conditions and helps young viewers to actively participate in cultural life, helps to feel life to the fullest, broaden their horizons, overcome psychological barriers.
In 2017, the theater was awarded the title of “Theater of the Year” within the framework of the city competition “Petersburg and Petersburgers”, held with the support of the Government, the Legislative Assembly and the Committee on Social Policy of St. Petersburg
In 2022 , the theater became a Laureate of the Fyodor Volkov Prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for its contribution to the development of domestic theatrical art
